The crew of a Boeing B-17F of the 5th Wing, 483rd Bomb Group, 815th Bomb Squadron, USAAF’s 15th Air Force, bailing out from his plane hit during a raid over Wiener Neustadt marshalling yards, South of Vienna. Note the right engines already failed. About the photo’s date I have encountered many disagreement from November 9, 1943, to May 1944, not always making with the missions list of the 12th and 15th units and I preferred not quote any date. According my opinion this dramatic picture reminding well the hard missions of 15th Air Force against targets protected by a smashing AA defence like those covering the Vienna Area also without a date.
