P-51D "TAR HEEL" flown by Capt James R Starnes a North Carolina native ,of the 505th FS,339th FG.The 339th flew out of Fowlmere,England. Capt Starnes was a 12 victory ace with the group and being from the state of North Carolina, he named the plane in the state's honor.(rudeerude)
