“Calamity Jane”, a B-24 Liberator of 725th Squadron, 451st Bomb Group, 49th Wing of USAAF’s 15th Air Force, based at Castelluccio, Foggia Air Field Complex, Southern Italy, just after a raid against the Szony oil refinery near Budapest, on 14 June 1944. "Calamity Jane" continued to fly until on 7 February 1945 when was destroyed in a mid-air collision over Vienna with another Liberator. The latter received a direct flak hit in the bomb bay causing it to burst into flames, rallied right and in doing so crashed into “Calamity Jane”. Of the 20 crewmen of the two Liberators survived only two, one for each aircraft, which bailed out and was took POW. Victor Sierra
