The W.A.S.P. was a U.S. women's paramilitary pilot corps that was run by the air force to ferry aircraft between destinations. WASP stands for Women Airforce Service Pilots. Thus the U.S. made use of female civilian pilots to support the war effort. (Hope this isn't a repost).
