Men of the First Army's Heavy Pontoon Battalion load the first heavy tank on a ferry, prior to crossing to the enemy shore. This battalion reached the Rhine river the day following the capture of the Ludendorff bridge at Remagen, Germany. Immediately ferries were constructed and operated, under artillery fire, to ferry needed troops and supplies to the far shore. - March 12, 1945.
