Operation Grenade was the crossing of the Roer (Rur) river between Roermond and Düren by the U.S. Ninth Army in February 1945. Mönchengladbach (as it is called now), is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located west of the Rhine, halfway between Düsseldorf and the Dutch border.
