Marine Warrant Officer, Maintenance Officer of the Motor Transport Unit, looks over the vehicles shot up in the Okinawa campaign. Most of them will be repaired or stripped of useable parts. Okinawa - June 1945 

Shot up vehicles

German prisoners and their American guard crouch behind an M36 Tank Destroyer for protection from a barrage of German SP guns. Prisoners were captured by Infantrymen of the 4th Division, U.S. Third Army in the Prum Valley, Germany on 2/28/45. The TD is likely from the 610th Tank Destroyer battalion, which was assigned to the 4th I.D. from 1/25 to 3/10/45.

the then lieutenant colonel Creighton Williams Abrams Jr. (born in September 15, 1914) in late 1944 where he was in the 4th armored division where he was the commander of the 37th Tank Battalion. some people view Abrams as the highest scoring U.S tank ace of the war (U.S sources say 12 tank kills. Russian sources say up to 50 tank kills). Patton viewed him as the best tank commander, and all his men had great respect for him he would later be a four star general in Vietnam. he would die in September 4, 1974 from lung cancer. in honor the m1 Abrams was named after him.
