The first "Super Pershing", a T26E1 mounted with the L73 90mm T15 gun. This photograph was taken after the tank arrived in Europe, and maintenance units in the Third Armor Division added extra armor to the front of the tank. The Pershing's gun mantlet was a known weak point in the armor, and so an 80mm piece from a Panther tank was added. Note the coil springs on top of the gun mount, which were required to balance the extra weight of the long gun barrel.(rudeerude)

Production T23 with cast turret for 76mm M1A1 gun, electrical transmission, and vertical volute spring suspension. The T23 turret was designed to be interchangeable with the turret ring of the M4 Sherman.(rudeerude)

Photograph of the single prototype tank built by Chrysler in the summer of 1944 that had a 90mm gun T26 turret mounted on an M4A3 chassis. The T26 and M4 tanks had the same turret ring. The project was canceled by the Ordnance Dept. after it became apparent that this tank still needed to be tested, would not likely arrive in the combat theater any sooner than the T26 tank, and would most likely interfere with the T26 production effort.
