 On November 17,1941, during the Battle of Moscow, the 44th Mongolian Cavalry Division charged against German lines near Musino, west of the capital. Soviet horsemen were massacred by German artillery and then by machine guns. The charge was a failure, two full regiments of the 44th Mongolian Cavalry Division, about 2000 men and their saddles, sacrificed themselves without effecting a single casualty to the German army.
