Sgt D S Sidhu, No. 75 (New Zealand) Squadron,RAF

My fathers cousin , Sgt D S Sidhu (standing third from left) , from India, had joined the RAF. In August 1939 the New Zealand government had offered to place both men and machines at the disposal of Britain. They were allocated the "75" squadron number and the squadron officially became No. 75 (New Zealand) Squadron, RAF on 4 April 1940. It was one of the first of the "bracket" squadrons. Sgt D S Sidhu was posted to this Sqn as a navigator . His Short Stirling W7513 was posted as missing during WW2. The crew of the aircraft were: Sgt. David Church, Sgt. Patrick Torre Hunter, Sgt. Devinder Singh Sidhu, Sgt. Pilot Keith Halliburton, Air/Bmr Sgt Thomas Scarfe , Air/Gnr Sgt Charles Henry George Boxall and Air/Gnr Sgt Alexander Clunie Howell. Sgt Sidhu's name is on RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL Panel 147. From what is on record, W7513 crashed into the sea near Vesternæs, Danish coast ,on the night of 28 - 29 April 1943 ( approximately at 00.35 hours) while on a mine laying mission (Op Gardening) in the Radish area (Fehmarn Belt off Kiel Bay). The aircraft had taken of from its New Market base, England . There were no witnesses, aircraft possibly shot down in the area, and the plane with the crew disappeared without a trace. The entire crew of seven is presumed dead.
