Other Forces
The Nazis were not the only ones of their general persuasion to produce propaganda movies, by any means. This poster is for a Spanish movie of the early 1940s, "A mi, la Legion!", glorifying the role of the Nationalist forces in the Spanish Civil War, and of the Spanish Foreign Legion in particular. Franco had served with the Spanish colonial forces in North Africa, where his career had been championed by the Foreign Legion, José Millán Astray. Not surprising, then, that the Legionary "Tercios" and their native Moorish comrades were among Franco's fiercest supporters during the Civil War; also, as battle-hardened veterans of the North African wars, they were among his best. Best regards, JR.
