Picture appears to have been taken while Kim Il-sung was serving as a captain in a Chinese/Korean battalion of the Soviet Red Army 88th Brigade in the period immediately before and during WW2.  Their first child - the current paranoid megalomaniac dictator of the PRK, Kim Jong-il - was born while his father was in Soviet service - at Vyatskoye, on 16 February 1941.  Regards, JR.

Ho Chi Minh (right), political and military leader of the Communist Viet Minh Vietnamese resistance movement (from 1944) and Viet Minh military leader (from 1944) General Vo Nguyen Giap in Hanoi, 1945.  After dealing with the Japanese, they polished off the French and - eventually - the non-Communist South Vietnamese government.  Altogether, a very long and costly war.
