Then and Now From Raf Kupplemans {but also my hometown ;) } This is my hometown of Leuven in Belgium, during the occupation and today, the monument in the background is for the murdered citizens of WW1, I wonder if this German soldier would have known the meaning of this monument.The monument stands before the railwaystation of Leuven,scene of a lot of Allied bombing because of it's importance being a railway crossroad and a major repair facility for locomotives.My mothers father worked at this repair shop but was taken to Germany for forced labor as a welder on their trains.The rest of the family moved a few times to safety because of the repeated bombings by the RAF.The place were the WW1 monument stands is called 'Martyre Square'.
