While leaving La Roche at nightfall I came upon this British Achilles 17 pounder. It's sitting on the highgrounds above La Roche en Ardenne .It's gun pointing outwards as if protecting the town from an oncoming enemy colum. Behind the tank on the other side of the Ourthe river valley, the castle ruins overlooking the town. The tank is a M10 Tankdestroyer fitted with the British 17 pouder gun, used by the Brithish from 1944.This Memorial is in honor of the 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry ,who supported the 51 st Highland division(Black watch) during the counter offensive of the Bulge Battle. It symbolises the liberation of the town by the British on january 11th 1945.The destroyer was restored by the town's Museum of the Battle of the Bulge, with the coöperation of the town.It was inaugurated on januari 11th 2000 for the 55th anniversary of La Roche en Ardenne.
