This STG44 was almost smelted! A woman, not knowing what she had and concerned about the ramifications of keeping a rifle around turned this beauty into CT police during a 'gun buy-back program'. Such programs allow people to turn in unwanted firearms that may pose a hazard their to local police, usually in exchange for a gift-certificate or a small sum of money. Her father was a WWII Vet who brought this assault rifle back from Europe after the war as a memento. The officers noted in this case the value of what is a much sought after rifle of great historical significance and told her she should sell it to a collector instead. The weapon stayed at the police station for safe keeping while the woman searches for a buyer. Estimates are the gun could be worth $25,000 USD or more... -Nick
