This morning during excavation work at Schiphol Airport Pier C(Netherland National Airport),a 500 kg Allied bomb was unearthed.During WW2 Schiphol Airport  was used by the Germans and bombed several times by the Allies.The Dutch explosives Service removed the bomb which will be detonated later in a safe place.

Also today in Flandres Belgium there was a small explosion in a military installation used for treating chemical/toxic explosives.This time a WW1 German gas shell was the culpritt.Luckily no residu escaped the installation.Each year our explosives service at Poelkapelle treat tons of unexploded ordnance,many of them WW1 gas shells.

Baby Tiger,the next generation

A 'controled' detonation of a 500 pound Allied bomb in the city of München went wrong.Because the bomb was deemed too dangerous to move it was detonated in situ.Sadly a few houses caught fire and many more had their windows blown out.Luckily some 2500 people had been evacuated and the metro closed so there were no casualties.The fire service controlled the fires quickly.
