The U.S.S. ARIZONA MEMORIAL at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii is an enclosed bridge which transversely spans the sunken hull of the gallant battleship, U.S.S. Arizona. The hull, resting on the bottom of the harbor, is clearly visible in this unique photograph. The Memorial was solemnly dedicated on Memorial Day, 1962. Its end wall is inscribed with the names of more than 1100 men who lost their lives when the U.S.S. Arizona went down during the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941. - The depressed center symbolizes defeat, the rising ends symbolize victory.
