The Vallo Alpino delLittorio, also known briefly as Vallo alpino (Alpine Wall) was a system of fortifications, forts and bunkers, built by Mussolini since 1931 to protect the Italian border from neighboring countries, France, Switzerland, Austria and Yugoslavia, all over the the Alps arc from Ventimiglia to Fiume. The construction of the Vallo Alpino on the former Austrian border, new German border after the annexation of Austria March 13, 1938, began in the same 1938 as a result of the distrust that Mussolini showed to Hitler's Germany. So the line trait here was baptized by populations of the areas affected by the works as "Linea non mi fido" ("Line I do not trust") with obvious ironic reference to the Siegfried Line, because in Italian language there's an assonance between the expressions "Linea Non mi fido" and "Linea Sigfrido".
