Mosta Dome Bomb

A few posts back I commented on the Dom of Cologne being spared from destruction by bombs although the Dom lies right next to the trainstation .Was it sheer luck or by 'the hand of God'.The same could be said about St.Paul's in London, damaged but not destroyed. What happened in Malta,in the city of Mosta ,is a story you could call a 'miracle'.The church called Mosta Dome(or Rotunda of Mosta) is the third largest unsupported dome in the world. On the 9th of april 1942 the church was nearly destroyed by German bombs. It is said that 2 bombs ricocheted of the dome but a third bomb penetrated the dome and smashed into the ground below without exploding. Some people were wounded, but the bomb was defused. Now when you visit the church you can see this replica of the bomb that struck Mosta Dome but failed to explode. The Maltese people, being very religious say it's a miracle that saved their church and the people in it.Greetz,Brummbar
