The advance up the Salso Valley concluded with an assault up Hill 736. One of the troops killed there was Bob McEwan, the young bridegroom from The Loyal Edmonton Regiment who had wed the previous year in England.  By this time Bob had made Sergent.

Lee-Enfield No 4 Bayonet
In the Second World War the British discarded the long "sword bayonet" used with the Mark III, and adopted a short "spike bayonet" for the No 4. The Canadians followed suit. This bayonet lacked the additional utilitarian benefit of a cutting edge, though the spike could be useful for puncturing cans of evaporated milk.  I don't know if a bayonet charge with one of these was as impressive as it's predecessor but bayonet charges were pretty rare by this time.

Commander of a Pz.Kpfw. V "Panther". Nice, isn't it? ;-) He is distinguished with the Iron Cross 1st class, and with the Tank Combat Badge (Panzerkampfabzeichen) in silver. Well, I can't decide here neither, that what is his rank.  :-/ (By Bazooka Joe)
