Lee-Enfield No 4 Bayonet In the Second World War the British discarded the long "sword bayonet" used with the Mark III, and adopted a short "spike bayonet" for the No 4. The Canadians followed suit. This bayonet lacked the additional utilitarian benefit of a cutting edge, though the spike could be useful for puncturing cans of evaporated milk. I don't know if a bayonet charge with one of these was as impressive as it's predecessor but bayonet charges were pretty rare by this time.
