Built by Aeronautica Macchi in Italy. A unique feature of the C.200 and it's two well known successors, the C.202 (Folgore) and C.205 (Vetro)was the unequal wing length, designed to compensate for engine torque rotation. The Italians military operations against the Albanian Kingdom were extremely brief: from April 7 to April 12, 1939. The Italian invasion force, led by General Alfredo Guzzoni, was of 100,000 men supported by 600 airplanes and 137 ships. Albania was rapidly overrun and the King Zog I was forced into exile. Now an Italian protectorate, the Albania became a separate kingdom in personal union with the Italian crown. Maritsa (or Maritza) Airfield, Rhodes Island, Aegean Front, 1942: Fiat G.50bis "Freccia" MM6050 of 162nd Squadriglia, 161st Gruppo Caccia Terrestre, Regia Aeronautica, in dispersal area upon trees. Under November 1941 the 161st Gruppo, with its Squadriglie, was equipped with the fighter biplane Fiat CR.42 (note a CR.42 in background) replaced by G.50bis. The MM6050 of the photo is a G.50 built at Marina di Pisa by CMASA (Fiat Group). VictorSierra.

Ursel, Belgium, Autumn/Winter 1940. Maintenance and ground tests of Fiat G.50 Freccia Italian fighters of the 20th Gruppo Caccia (Fighter Group). Note the pitiable conditions of the aircraft’s painting after few months on the climates of North Sea The aircraft in background shows Commander's insignia, Major Mario Bonzano which leaded also the first G.50’s unit during the Spanish Civil War. The 20th Gruppo, originally based at Rome, Ciampino Airport, was integrated in the newly established 56th Stormo at moment of establishment of Corpo Aereo Italiano, or CAI, the Italian Air Corps dispatched on Belgium as Italy’s contribution to Battle of Britain. The G.50’s missions was very few and the Italian monoplanes, on the contrary of the biplanes CR.42s, never encountered in combat the enemy. The Regia Aeronautica’s aircraft returned to home on January 1941, except two G.50’s Squadriglie remained in Belgium for interdiction flights over the North Sea’s coasts until 15 April 1941.
