Maritsa (or Maritza) Airfield, Rhodes Island, Aegean Front, 1942: Fiat G.50bis "Freccia" MM6050 of 162nd Squadriglia, 161st Gruppo Caccia Terrestre, Regia Aeronautica, in dispersal area upon trees. Under November 1941 the 161st Gruppo, with its Squadriglie, was equipped with the fighter biplane Fiat CR.42 (note a CR.42 in background) replaced by G.50bis. The MM6050 of the photo is a G.50 built at Marina di Pisa by CMASA (Fiat Group). VictorSierra.

Savoia Marchetti S.79 "Sparviero", Aircraft Number 2, of 192nd Squadriglia, 87th, Gruppo, 30th Stormo, based at Sciacca, Sicily, photographed from another S.79, during a flight perhaps for a training sortie in Summer 1940. In this aircraft, liked many other S.79s, the front machine gun was removed. In the photo is clearly visible under the fuselage the nacelle for gunner's and the bombardier's stations, nacelle removed over the S.79 torpedo bomber. Victor Sierra

Another quiet flight

Grottaglie Airport, near Taranto, April 8, 1939. The 1st Grenadiers of Sardinia Regiment boarding on S.79s of the 204th Squadriglia, 41st Gruppo, 12th Stormo for the invasion of Albania. The Italians military operations against the Albanian Kingdom were extremely brief: from April 7 to April 12, 1939. The Italian invasion force, led by General Alfredo Guzzoni, was of 100,000 men supported by 600 airplanes and 137 ships. Albania was rapidly overrun and the King Zog I was forced into exile. Now an Italian protectorate, the Albania became a separate kingdom in personal union with the Italian crown. The King of Italy Victor Emmanuel III was crowned King of Albania in addition to his title of Emperor of Ethiopia. Victor Sierra
