S. Marco Battalion

American and British troops look over a Italian Semovente da 90/53 self-propelled 90mm AT gun on Sicily. The Italian 90mm gun was on par with the German 88mm and could easily knock out any Allied tank circa 1943. But this vehicle is nothing more than a mobile anti-tank gun, with no armor defense to speak of. I have seen some reports that the Semovente da 90/53 was sent to North Africa but I have never seen any real documentation/confirmation that this is true. Several of the vehicles were used on Sicily and then in contesting the Allied landings at Salerno.
