Flying School near the Trasimeno Lake

Lineup of training aircraft Nardi FN.305 of Italian Military Flying School of Castiglion del Lago, an airfield on the bank of Trasimeno Lake, near Perugia. The photo color very likely dating at the first months after the entry in the war of Italy. Note, indeed, two different liveries of aircrafts, all white and camouflage, and the two different markings on the rudder: Italian tricolor and white cross. One aircraft in background as the white cross of the rudder superimposed to the tricolor. The two camouflaged FN.305s in foreground have the white strip of different width. The most width strip of aircraft Number 11 was the strip standard for the training planes of Italian Air Force in the years from 1940 to 1943. One FN.305 is today preserved in Italian Aeronautical Museum while the former Castiglion del Lago Airfield, disused after the war, is a grass runway utilized by ultra-light planes. Victor Sierra
