The Italian liner Rex, lying on her side and on fire in Capodistria Bay, south of Trieste, on 10 September 1944 two days after the attack (8 September 1944) by RAF's Bristol Beaufighters of the Mediterranean Allied Coastal Air Force which capsized her. Pride of Italian commercial fleet before war, winning of Blue Riband on 1933, the Rex after the Italian armistice of 8 September 1943 was seized by Germans at Trieste. Victor Sierra
