First weeks of war

Fiat 665 Scudato (AFV) of the Milizia burnt after the Tito's partisans ambush, february 2nd 1944. That day on the road between Comeno and Rifembergo (north of Trieste, then in Italian territory, nowadays in Slovenia) an Italo-German column was attacked by partisans and 22 German policemen and 38 Italian Black Shirts were killed. A combat air patrol of 85th Squadriglia’s Fiat CR.42 fighters over Genoa’s harbor few days after the entry of Italy in the war (June 1940). In the absence of an airport (the current Genoa’s Airport, Aeroporto “Cristoforo Colombo” di Genova-Sestri, was open in 1962), the fighters were based on a little airstrip in the harbor’s area.
