General Veress was an important Hungarian general during WW2. Born in the Szekely-Land of Erdely (Transylvania), he served on the Don front for a while heading a tank division, led an army corps at Kolozsvar (Cluj), and served as the commander as the new Hungarian Second Army at the major battle of Torda (Turda) in 1944. He was a confidant of Regent  and was arrested by the Germans on October 15, 1944, when Horthy attempted to take Hungary out of the war.

A rear entrance to an artillery bunker of the Arpad Line of defensive fortifications built during 1940-1944 in the Eastern Carpathian mountains. The line stopped the Red Army in the N. East of Hungary for four weeks until it was outflanked and had to be abandoned.

A German-made 75mm anti-tank artillery piece is being loaded by a Hungarian crew during 1944. It was the only effective AT howitzer for the Honved army, other than the 80 and 88mm AA guns.
