Two Hungarians officers seem to be ready to do their military duty for their country, while a young lady in the background does not want to be left out of the picture.

The gazes and postures of the soldiers departing from the town of Tata reveal their deep foreboding about the possibility of never seeing their loved ones again. Their concerns were well justified.  Around 2/3 of them never returned home again.

As a troop train from Tata is about to depart, so it seems that a mother on our left grieves on his son's shoulder, in the middle a female companion, lover or wife, seems deeply angered by the upcoming disruption of ties, while the Hungarian soldier on our right takes solace in a small flask of most likely hard "palinka," while the lady beside him stands in a dejected daze.
