Waffen SS Regiment Ney was formed near Budapest in October, 1944, by Hungarian right-wing soldier Karoly Ney, from mainly Hungarian volunteers consisting of 2000 to 4000 men. During the siege of Budapest, Ney's Waffen SS soldiers fought bravely alongside various German and Hungarian units. They also took part in the fighting retreat into Austria.
