After completing artillery training in the Honved army, this young man from the shores of the Tisza river was ordered to move East with his unit in the summer/fall of 1941. All of the following pictures originate from Sergeant Paul (Pal) Nagy's personally shot photographs.

His steam-locomotive-pulled train is climbing toward the Tartar Pass in the Carpathian Mountains of NE Hungary over an old stone/steel  railroad viaduct. In the mountains, often a "pusher" locomotive was put into service as well.
