Hungarian Forces
J. Szabo
This February 1945 photo was taken in the little village of Leiben in Austria. My father (Szabo Jozsef 1903-1989) was able to visit us briefly, after the military dependents were relocated there from Hungary, away from the advancing soviet armies... Eventually, we ended up in the American Zone. - Note the 3 horizontal silver bars on his sleeve - indicating the rank of master sergeant. Also visible is his side arm (in the holster) the standard Frommer pistol. Fortunately, he never had to use it. - I am the young boy, his son. The lady is the wife of a fellow sergeant.
