A Hungarian outpost in a defensive position on the Eastern front, probably during 1943-1944. Judging by the cap, he could have been a border guard stationed in the Carpathian mountains.

In the course of retreat, the First Army was stationed for a while in Poland, in this case in the town of Styj, not far from Warsaw. Their transportation seems to have been buses originating from Budapest. The Hungarians would  fight against the Soviets, but not the Poles.

A group of Honved paratroopers line up for inspection. Though numbering only  a thousand or two, they fought hard defending Budapest during the siege of 1944-1945, deployed as regular infantry, using Hungarian submachine guns.
