As far as I know, Pharaonic Egypt was not a party in WW2, but this did not save this stone Pharoah from the destruction of his "home" the Berlin Neuesmuseum (photographed 1949), which was so badly bombed and shelled that it failed to open from the time of its wartime closure in late-1939 until 2009; the museum's egyptology, archaeology and ethnography collections re-opened officially in October 2009. Apart from the very heavy war damage suffered by the museum and its collections, prospects for re-opening were not promoted by the fact that the museum premises is located in what was East Berlin. Nobody can deny that the old German Democratic Republic had ambitious cultural agendas - but rebuilding and refitting a bombed-out museum of ancient history did not seem to come foremost among them. Anyway, the Pharoah seems to have survived well enough; he obviously had a good hard head on him ... Best regards, JR.
