How to install your Anderson Shelter.

British families installing their Anderson Shelters.  These were basically steel huts, pre-fabricated and supplied in self-assembly kit form (free to those on low incomes).  They were designed to be buried in domestic gardens (or at least sodded over) to enhance bomb protection.  They supplied good protection for 6-10 people (except perhaps from direct hits or very near misses), but received mixed reviews overall as they tended in practice to be damp, cold and squalid refuges.
