The Hitler Youth salutes the Fuhrer in Nuremburg during the 1937 Nazi Party Congress. Over 50,000 children-almost 90 percent of them boys-attended the rally. Members were required to be in Hitlers words,"slim and slender, swift as greyhounds, tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp steel." Parachute Mine

A detachment of the French Milice--scourge of the Resistance--parades down the Champs-Elysees in Paris in 1944. More than 40,000 frenchmen joined the force. If laurels were awarded for pure savagery, they would have gone to the Milice, and too their sadistic cousins--the French Self Defense Corps--both largely manned by native Fascist thugs and released jail-birds. Together, this pair of huge and motley forces helped the Gestapo round up more than 8,000 Jews for deportation. And after applying preliminary torture, they slaughtered hundreds of men and women who had served in the Resistance. After Liberation, members of record were automatically executed.
