This German boy became the victim of a booby trap as he tried to lift a pair of mined shoes. Hand and knee of the boy had been injured.

Two german 'Frauleins' (damsels) hauling water, stepping over rifles, machine guns and even the head of  a Panzerfaust can be seen. Because of the absence of most men (captivity or death) much of the hard work of rebuilding Germany was their task. The characteristic  term of the 'Trümmerfrauen' (debris women) found its way into common german parlance.
