German heavy cruiser "Admiral Hipper". Having taken part in the German invasion of Norway, the "Hipper" functioned mainly as a commerce raider, in co-operation with other German capital ships. Seriously damaged in 1942 (in the course of convoy-raiding), the ship was decommissioned, only returning to action in 1945 when employed in the evacuation of German military personnel and civilians from East Prussia and the Baltic enclaves. Scuttled in May, 1945, she was subsequently raised and "enjoyed" a brief career as a target ship. She eventually sank while being towed to the scrapyard, 1949. Best regards, JR.
