German Leadership
Hermann Goering, in his role as Reich Master of the Hunt (Reichjagermeister) reviews members of the uniformed, paramilitary Reich Forestry Service (Reich Jagerschaft) at his Karinhalle estate. Goering was an enthusiastic huntsman and - not at all inconsistently - a passionate promoter of animal rights. Under his supervision, hunting was strictly controlled, certain "cruel" kinds of hunting (on horseback, for example) were banned, and cruelty to hunted animals (even in the process of killing them) was strongly discouraged. He was also responsible for the ban placed on animal vivisection soon after the Nazis came to power. Pity he did not have such a soft spot for humans ... Best regards, JR.
