Gertraud Junge (born Humps) photographed at the Berghof - probably by Heinrich Hoffmann or Eva Braun.  Traudl Junge was the youngest of Hitler's private secretaries in the period leading up to the collapse of the Third Reich - she joined his suite in December, 1942, aged 22.  She took dictation of the Fuhrer's private and political testament in the Fuhrerbunker.  She survived the war (and months of most unpleasant interrogation by the Soviet intelligence services), eventually reaching Munich.  After years in the shadows, she came to public attention in later years through her contributions to a number of film documentaries, including ITV's "World at War" series, and through the publication of her authobiography.  She died in 2002, in Munich, aged 81.  Best regards, JR.

Traudl Humps' wedding with SS-Sturmbannfuhrer (later Obersturmbannfuhrer) Hans Hermann Junge, 19 June, 1943.  The marriage between Junge, one of Hitler's personal adjutants, and his personal private secretary was "suggested" by Hitler, who appears to have been very fond of both of them.  It is possible that the Fuhrer was attempting to tie Junge down a bit; he had already made several requests to be assigned to a fighting unit.  In any case, the happy couple do not seem to have been together very much.  Less than a month after the wedding, Hans Junge's request for assignment to a combat unit was granted.  He was killed in action in the course of an Allied aircraft ground attack in France on 13 August, 1944.
