General Hube at a mobile observation post, 16th Panzer Division, 23 August 1942. Having gathered on the eastern bank of the Don River, 14th Panzer Corps began its offensive to Stalingrad at dawn, stricking at the junction between 4th Tank and 62nd Armies. A hundred tanks unleashed on Soviet troops preparing to attack the German bridgehead, then rushed to the Volga, nearly 50 km in one jump. 16th Panzer Division, followed by 3rd and 60th Motorized Divisions, reached the river at 4 in the afternoon in the northern suburbs of Stalingrad. German tanks were less than 2 km from the Tractor plant. taken from fb/Stalingrad battle data
