Guard duty. This Soldat is armed with a early production MP40 (slick, machined mag well) and has been issued a set of the relatively rare leather magazine pouches. He is taking his turn behind the squad MG34, observing no-man's land for possible movements. Note the improvised alarm bell and the 3 Stielhandgranaten 24 with no safety cap, ready for use.
