In spite of the myth of the German "motorized juggernaut", the vast majority of German soldiers in WW2 were dependent on their own legs to get about, and on horse-drawn carts to carry their supplies. German POW with Pet Puppy - US001215  - Stock Photo - Corbis. 21-year old prisoner of war Wolf Dietrick Setzerfand, from Ehrfurt, Germany, brought a black fox terrier, "Ko", with him to detention camp in Virginia. He found the dog in Libya during the Africa campaign. Captured in Tunisia, he was a one-year army veteran who wore the ribbon of the 2nd class Iron Cross.

Two German snipers surrender to GIs of the 3rd Army in Koblenz. The youngster on the right was wounded by US return fire. The Russians took no sniper prisoners; they were invariably shot on sight. March 26, 1945.
