21 March 1942 Germans attack Soviet lines in the Demyansk Pocket. The pocket existed mainly from 8 February-21 April 1942-The successful defence of Demyansk (by the Germans), achieved through the use of an airbridge, was a significant development in modern warfare. The pocket demanded an inordinate response on the part of the Soviets, stalling offensive actions elsewhere.
