Brigadefuhrer Fritz Witt carrying a floral tribute.  This is from a series of colour photographs taken at the party given by the officers of his "Hitlerjugend" Division to mark his 36th birthday, 25 May, 1944.  On 14 June, 1944, Witt suffered the unusual distinction (for a Waffen-SS general) of being killed when his divisional headquarters at Venoix, Normandy, was hit by a British naval barrage.
