Papa Manstein (1)

Eduard Julius August Ludwig von Lewinski, General of Artillery and natural father of future Field Marshal Erich von Manstein. Manstein had the somewhat unusual distinction of being the son of two Prussian aristocrat-generals. General von Lewinski and his wife were, let us say, fairly prolific in the kinder department; the lady's sister and her husband, one General von Manstein, were not so fortunate. So as to allow the Mansteins to found a family, the Lewinskis allowed them to adopt two of their children, a daughter and a son, of whom the future Field Marshal was the younger. Best regards, JR.
