A quiet smoke.

German NCO enjoys a relaxing pipe while on guard with captured Soviet PPsh-41 (with box magazine), Russian Front (date and location unknown). I have wondered sometimes what Germans were smoking in the latter stages of the war. Was it something like the roasted scrapings of oak tree bark (left over after making the "coffee") ? Or (though I hesitate to mention it) Greek tobacco ? Best regards, JR.
