Waffen SS Obergruppenfuhrer Artur Phleps wearing (at the throat) the (Croatian) cross of the Military Order of the Iron Trefoil, First Class.  Phleps was one of only three known recipients of this Order in this class.  He is also wearing the ribbon of the Iron Cross, Second Class (WW1) with WW2 clasp, Iron Cross, First Class, Infantry Assault Badge, SS Membership Badge/Patch (partly obscured by belt) and sleeve patch and cuff title of the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division, Prinz Eugen. An André Zucca colour 'photo of some German lads coming face-to-face with a horse at Longchamp racecourse, August 1942.  They look a bit uncertain as to how to react.  Hopefully, they resisted any urge to skin and eat it; this would have been considered something of a faux pas on the Bois de Boulogne, even in wartime ... Just kidding, JR.
