29 may 1940,the Belgian Army has surrendered after a 3 week battle against the German invader.This photo was taken in Bruges,in the foreground Belgian equipment taken from the soldiers.The vehicle is a Vickers Utility Tractor(VUT) used by the Belgian Army. The German official history stated that in the 18 days of bitter fighting,the Belgian Army were tough opponents, and spoke of the extraordinary bravery of its soldiers.The Belgian collapse forced the Allied withdrawal from continental Europe.The British Navy evacuated the BEF and other forces in Operation Dynamo allowing military operations to continue.Belgium was occupied by the Germans untill the winter of 1944-45 culminating in the Battle of the Bulge,where the Western Allies defeated the last big German offensive.Greetz,brummbar
