From left, SS-Gruppenfuhrer Kurt Daluege, SS Reichfuhrer (informal title) Heinrich Himmler and Ernst Rohm, leader of the SA. The Bundesarchiv caption indicates that this 'photo was taken on 1 August, 1933. Less that a year later, Rohm would be shot in a prison cell in the course of the "Night of the Long Knives" purge, an operation "staffed" by members of the nascent LSSAH and of the nascent Totenkopfverbande, both SS formations.
